Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our conservation efforts and how you can get involved.
How can I volunteer?
You can join us by filling out our volunteer form on the website and attending training sessions.
We welcome passionate individuals who want to make a difference in protecting endangered sea turtles and preserving our coastal ecosystem.
Volunteers can help with beach cleanups, community outreach, turtle monitoring, hatchling releases, and data collection. No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to learn and a love for nature.
What species of turtles do you protect?
Our conservation efforts focus on several endangered species that frequent the Kenyan coast, including the Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas), Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), and Olive Ridley Turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea). These turtles face threats from habitat loss, pollution, poaching, and accidental bycatch. We work to protect nesting sites, raise awareness, and advocate for their survival.
How can I donate to your cause?
Your donations help fund our turtle patrols, conservation education, community workshops, nesting site protection, and youth-led sustainability programs.
We accept both local and international contributions. To donate, visit our secure donation page or contact us directly for other options such as bank transfer or in-kind support.
Where do your cleanups take place?
Our beach cleanups happen regularly along the Mtwapa-Maweni shoreline and other nearby coastal areas affected by marine pollution. We organize community and youth-led cleanups to remove plastic waste, abandoned fishing gear, and debris that threaten turtles and marine life. Join our events or suggest a site in need of cleanup by contacting our team.
How do you ensure the turtles’ safety during nesting season?
We monitor beaches daily for nesting activity and mark turtle nests to prevent disturbance. When necessary, we relocate vulnerable nests to safer areas. We also educate local communities about the importance of protecting nesting turtles and work with authorities to report any illegal poaching or harassment incidents.
Can schools or groups schedule visits or tours?
Yes! We offer guided educational tours for schools, youth groups, and eco-tourists. Visitors learn about turtle biology, threats to marine ecosystems, and how we can all contribute to ocean conservation. To schedule a visit, reach out through our contact form and we’ll tailor the experience to your group’s needs.
Are there other ways to get involved besides volunteering?
Absolutely. You can become an ambassador for marine conservation by spreading awareness on social media, participating in fundraising efforts, organizing local awareness events, or sponsoring specific conservation tools like beach signage or hatchling enclosures. Every effort counts.
